Much can be gleaned by studying history. When it comes to marriage and divorce, studying historical data reveals a number of insights regarding the habits of couples and how it relates to other societal factors.

Randy Olson — who is a data analysis expert whose work has been featured in the New York Times, Wired, and FiveThirtyEight — recently compiled data on the marriage and divorce rates in the U.S. over the last 144 years by sifting through the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics database.

Olson joined DadsDivorce Live to explain how he collected all this data and analyze some of the more interesting trends he uncovered.
