Question:
Is child support also supposed to cover extra-curricular activities like sports teams and equipment?
Does my ex have a right to expect me to pay for things like winter boots on top of the support I already pay?
Answer:
While I am not licensed to practice law in your state, I can give some general guidance on this issue.
The answer is dependent on the court order that set the child support as well as the specific laws of your state. It may be that you are required to pay a pro rated share of extracurricular activities, or it may be that you are required to pay all or none of it.
Be sure to bring the court order to a consultation with an attorney in your state so that they can better advise you on how to proceed.
Many states require that you provide all clothing, especially when the child will be in your care at some point. In other words, the court would require that you pay for winter boots for the time in which the child will be with you.
Remember, I am unable to provide you with anything more than divorce tips for men, so please consult a domestic litigation attorney in your area to obtain specific advice as to the laws in your state and how they impact your potential case.
