What is a writ of attachment?

Divorce attorney Jason BowmanQuestion:

My ex-wife is threatening to get a writ of attachment against me.

Could you explain what a writ of attachment is and how it could possible affect child custody?

Answer:

First let me preface my answer by stating that even though I am licensed in the state of Kentucky, I cannot provide you with specific advice to your question as I am unfamiliar with all of the specific facts of your case that would form my legal opinion.

A writ of attachment is not usually associated with family law cases. A writ of attachment is a court order to seize an asset in order to satisfy a judgment. Your ex should not be able to use a writ of attachment to affect custody of the child.

You should seek the advice of an attorney in Kentucky to see what your rights are and what steps you need to take to protect those rights. Cordell & Cordell does practice in your state.
