A Man’s Mind: I Am Busy Right Now

Richard J. Avdoian, MS, MSW, CSP

“I’m busy right now."

Our children are typically extremely playful, impatient, inquisitive and seek immediate attention without consideration to what we are doing.  Well rather than allowing it to be disruptive when you’re engrossed in task, reading etc. and possibly reacting harshly you may try this solution.

Jointly select and purchase a small toy or other item (nick-nack) that can easily stand upright on a table or desk top.  Then instruct your child(ren) to be observant.

When the item is in the up right position it means I am really busy and only interrupt if it is a serious issue

When in item is laying on it’s side it means I am busy but you can interrupt for very short periods of time

If the item isn’t on the desk or table you can interrupt me anytime.

Keep in mind they are children who are hungry for your time, energy and attention and haven’t learned patience.
