    Holmes and Rahe Study
I just found your blog today and so this is my first visit by.

To echo Russel’s comments on change/grief being difficult, take a look at the Holmes and Rahe Study (1967) which assign a numeric value to the most stressful life events one can go through. Many of them are not negative events. In fact this study takes the information one step farther and they use the numeric values to predict whether a person is likely or not to incur illness in the near future (and a correlation between these change/stressful situations has been established in follow-up studies).

More info can be found here: I am glad I found this site and enjoyed the video episode. To put the impact of divorce into perspective (with regards to grief), I like to reference the Holmes and Rahe Study from 1967. It ranks divorce as the 2nd most stressful event a person can experience in life.
