This week, Cordell & Cordell announced that Fort Worth Senior Attorney Lauren Melhart earned Board Certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Ms. Melhart was one of just 34 family law attorneys to obtain the prestigious designation in 2014.

Board Certification is a voluntary designation program that certifies Texas attorneys in 21 specific areas of law.

Dads Divorce posted a new article highlighting the trend during this year’s Super Bowl of companies airing advertisements showing fathers in caring and nurturing roles with their children.

Toyota, Nissan, and Dove Men+Care all aired commercials showing fathers in a positive light. The ads fit with recent research that shows that more and more dads are building stronger emotional ties with their children.

Men’s Divorce published a new article explaining what factors are commonly used by courts when considering a reduction or termination to child support or alimony.

The laws vary by state, but modifying child support or alimony typically requires a significant change in circumstances. Terminating child support usually means waiting until the child reaches the age of emancipation. Ending alimony is sometimes less clear if the decree doesn’t include specific stipulations.
