Ask a Lawyer: What Is “Denied Without Prejudice”?

Question:

I just had a hearing with a motion, cross-examination, and response to cross-examination. The divorce decree states that we split the money and wife owes money after 50/50 split. She proved that I did not completely transfer 50/50 and the Judge ruled "denied without prejudice". Does this mean the issue is completely dead or can my wife come back at me at a later time?

Answer:

"Without prejudice" means that no one is barred from raising a similar claim in the future.

What reasons would a judge file without prejudice ? that term was used in the property settlement portion of my divorce and my lawyer quit right after that was ruled. I called, and emailed my old lawyer trying to figure out what was going on but to this date I know nothing. How can I get some answers.
