DadsDivorce Live: Helping Kids Stay Whole Through Divorce

Figuring out how to explain your divorce to your kids is often one of the most difficult aspects of the entire process.

Many parents are inclined to tell their children that the divorce “is for the best,” and they try to reassure their kids by saying “things will all work out in the end.”

Children’s author Anastasia Higginbotham has authored a series of children’s books designed to help them through ordinary terrible things they encounter in their daily lives. The first book in the series is titled, “Divorce is the Worst.” The book differs from a lot of other children’s books about divorce in that it doesn’t sugarcoat anything about the process. It acknowledges how difficult the process is for kids and, rather than reassure them that everything is OK, it offers advice on how to stay whole even though their parents split apart.

Anastasia joined DadsDivorce Live to talk about her own experience with divorce, her book series, and why she chose such a straightforward approach with the topic.
